Forum Promotion Loves Us!
Well, okay, that's not exactly true. They kind of think we suck. I'm not surprised by any means, nor do I even blame them for feeling that way. The site's appearance, quite frankly, probably sucks harder than any other site's on the Internet right now.
For those of you who don't know, Princess MeowsePad's Precious Musings is entered into the "Site Battle Madness" contest on Forum Promotion. You can read about the contest here. If you don't feel like reading that, here's the gist of it:
1. Sites enter and are placed into a bracket.
2. In each round, each site battles another one on one. Half of the sites are eliminated each round, with some tricky exceptions that you can read about above if you really want to know.
3. The last eight sites remaining get prizes. The final four sites, second place site, and first place site get better prizes.
That's as concisely as I can explain it. Anyway, Princess MeowsePad's Precious Musings is going up against Nook Movie Preview Site. I have nothing bad to say about the other site; it's a great site, and I would highly recommend checking it out if you're a film buff who wants a nice compliation of movie trailers. However, Princess MeowsePad's Precious Musings is currently winning the battle by four votes. A person posted in the battle's thread questioning whether or not our site deserves to win and stated that he thinks that people are voting for us simply because of my status as a retired administrator.
You may be wondering if that is true and whether or not we do deserve to win. The simple answer is that I don't know. I do not personally believe that people are voting for us simply because of my status on the forum for three reasons:
1. I'm far from beloved on Forum Promotion. In fact, I have been told that certain members of the forum's staff view me as a "public enemy."
2. I have seen people whom I consider friends of mine on Forum Promotion vote for the other site. I do not hold any ill will towards them for that, and I have not asked them to change their votes.
3. I actually believe that we have some good content here on our site that is useful or likely to brighten somebody's day.
I am going to be completely transparent and state that I have asked a few people (maybe six) to vote for the site. This is not against the rules of the contest. The people whom I asked to vote are mostly people who like our site anyway and might have missed the opportunity to vote for it if I had not reminded them, but there are also a couple who are just friends. I did not pressure them to vote for me; I just said, "Hey, I'm in this contest and would appreciate your vote since you have an account on FP with ten posts. If you don't feel like it, I understand." Was it wrong for me to do that since we might be losing if those people hadn't been directed to the poll? Well, I don't know. You are more than welcome to e-mail me or contact me on my forum (or any others) with your opinion on that issue, and I will definitely take it into account for the next battle.
I know that this is probably not what people are here on the site to read, but I just had to make a post about it because it was bothering me to some extent. I also am not sure if I have conducted myself in a manner that most would consider right and proper, and I would love your feedback if you feel that I could have handled things better. I apologize if you are upset about this post, and I assure you that I will return to my usual kind of content after this.
I would like to thank Bluezone777 for his post praising our site in the battle topic. Your support means a lot, Bluezone, and I probably would have been even more perturbed by this whole affair if you hadn't made it. I would also like to thank everyone who has voted for Princess MeowsePad's Precious Musings in the poll. Your support means more to me than I can describe in words, and you guys are the reason that I keep going!
Disclaimer: To be clear, I hold no ill will towards the person in our battle thread who raised the question about the legitimacy of our votes. He has every right to state his opinion, and I do not in any way intend to shame him for it. This is merely a post to express my thoughts on the matter.
