Won't hurt if I try, will it?
Surely not. Really I imagine everyone has a way of coping with suicidal thoughts.

I have a tendency towards self harm when I'm in a highly emotional or suicidal state, albeit my method isn't *too* dangerous. But considering that, I need all the coping skills I can get my hands on. That's part of why I love mottos. I can recite any one of them depending on the situation to help at least a bit.

Essentially using it like a mantra. Makes sense. I haven't really made much use of mantras.

There's an improper way to spell it?

When I was in partial after being hospitalized for suicidal ideation, I had this one therapist there doing group therapy... She wrote it manta and got soooo angry when I corrected her and snapped at me despite knowing about my need to correct spelling and grammar when I see it or I can't focus on anything else. "Oh so now you're a pro at languages other than English too?" -- paraphrasing what she said. Also pretty sure mantra's in the English dictionary too.

I probably would've just asked what does this session have to do with manta rays if I saw that.

...I wish I'd thought of that at the time. Dang, I missed a good pun chance! Nice catch!

I have a few I tend to use.

"for SCIENCE!" when people ask me why I'm tinkering with something or studying something which they consider odd (face not staring at phone, not socializing, not following the herd, something must be wrong right? ;) )

"you're not old until you're past 200" for when people complain about feeling old.

"just because those humans do it doesn't mean I want to do it too" when people try to use peer pressure to make me do something... it's actually quite effective, though my friends just consider me an eccentric these days :smirk:
