What randomness did you learn today?

Post by Juneberry » 2 months ago

I was raised to think that learning something new each day is both important and a blessing. So, I'm turning to you guys for help, and hopefully vice versa. Let's share things we learned today!

Today, I learned they made a musical out of Beetlejuice. It's brand new, just opened in April. But seriously...Beetlejuice. A musical. I'm still in a weird sense of shock.

Just because a fruit looks ripe doesn't mean it is on the inside. Dad picked some tomatoes that are super red on the outside but were still green on the inside.

Fatboy Slim doesn't class emoji as smiley faces, apparently. (He also happens to have probably the largest collection of smiley face stuff in the world.)

50 Cent got rich off Vitamin Water stock when Coca Cola bought it. He's actually pretty good at stocks and crypto to my understanding.

So in Dutch some words are plural in a funny way. For example the plural for babies in Dutch in baby's. Another little fun fact is the use of 's. For example

Het is twee uur 's middags. (It is two in the afternoon)

's is used in place of a much older Dutch word, des. Basically the Dutch just shortened it.

That is quite interesting! Speaking of language facts, did you know Hebrew letters aren't just letters? They also are numbers, a bit like roman numerals. The first ten letters in the Hebrew alphabet are 1-10, then it goes to hundreds and thousands if I recall correctly. I'm not 100% sure anymore, as I haven't been to Hebrew school in over a decade.

I knew some religious groups put special emphasis on Hebrew numbering because of it.

As I've noted in a different thread if you can think it someone on this planet has put it in a can.

The term "incel" has become rather popular on the internet. Perhaps to the horror of some modern users of the term incel as a definition was created by a woman.
