Your favorite grocer?

Post by Juneberry » 2 months ago

Let's face it- whether it's a big name or a local mom and pop shop, we all have a favorite place to get our groceries- or at least one we use more than any other option around us. So, why not talk about it. Where do you get your groceries, and why do you like getting them from there?

I'm a biiiiig Trader Joe's fan myself. They have lots of unique things, and surprising amounts of food that don't have corn products in them, meaning more foods my dad can eat! Plus the daily free samples are usually nice :3

We only have Walmart, Save A Lot and Food Giant. Food Giant probably sells the best meat but we use Walmart a lot because my mother is lazy. In Memphis though it was all about Kroger. Kroger is so huge in Memphis they're everywhere and some even have nicknames like "The Jewish Kroger" in the neighborhood that has a high Jewish population.

Go to Aldi’s and pick up their high-cocoa dark chocolate, flipping lush for the price <3

Around my area we have a grocer called Big Y the employees are almost always nice which is kind of rare around here. They're clean, their generics are actually good, they make precooked dinners. I sound like an ad. :|

edit: oh i almost forgot. The sushi is actually decent.

Speaking of grocers I used to shop at a small Islamic grocery store when I lived in Memphis. Their prices were actually really low and they sold some quality stuff.

well, I frequently leave my city due to a 2cent per oz of liquid sugar tax, and go where sales are.

but for food, I actually like to visit the farms around the area when they're selling their goods, or at the farmers market on sundays sometimes.

outside of that though, mostly I just go where food costs the least for stuff I can't get here.

there is this nice little market though next to one of my favourite Chinese restaurants.

among other things they carry mung beans, mochi, red bean paste seasame buns, and pocky in at least 5 flavors :-D
also ramen flavors I can't find anywhere else and red bean paste ice-cream. 8D

they specialize in asian food so....

The farmers market here is usually a rip off sadly. High prices for food that doesn't taste any better than Walmart because they buy it in bulk out of Florida or Missouri. Why a lot of that I grow on my own.
