If you want an experience in the nonsensical just read the Codex where Elder Scrolls characters are bumping gangster rap.

Where can I find that?

I'd have to find it. It's not considered canon partly because Kirkbride, the author, isn't as influential on the direction of the series as he was under the Morrowind era and because it's just really difficult to read and it's absolutely absurd. Kirkbride is a mix of genius and dumb and I find it fascinating with his writing.

A dumb genius? I'm intrigued further.

Genius in that some Elder Scrolls lore is absolutely beautiful and the layers and depth it can go makes it possibly the most in-depth RPG video game in existence. Dumb in that you have things like Vivec bumping gangster rap and doing drive-bys in another plane of existence. Also it's official lore that Vivec basically cut off the Daedric Lord Molag Bal's penis, made it into a spear, and went on to shove it down Azura's throat.

That's pretty graphic lore. I should write stuff like that.

The thing is you can easily miss a lot of this lore if you're not into reading every little scrap of lore collected from each game plus interviews and outside writings the writers have done. Why most people won't know about CHIM, zero sum, mantling, and so on.

You just shared two more things I don't know about. What do they mean?

So in Elder Scrolls nothing is real and everything is inside the dream of a sleeping god, similar to Hindu belief. It's important to understand that for the rest to make sense.

Zero sum is when you come to the realization that nothing is real and you're not real and you basically wipe yourself out of existence. This is more than death, you're literally erasing your entire existence like you never were born.

CHIM is when you make the same realization but instead you "turn the wheel on it's side" as the game puts it which means essentially you realize because nothing is real you can manipulate the dream. Essentially CHIM makes you god-like. For a real world comparison it's sort of like lucid dreaming.

Mantling is when you copy someone so perfectly for so long you transform into that person. So by the Oblivion protagonist copying everything Sheogorath is he became Sheogorath is more than title, he actually BECAME Sheogorath.
